We will celebrate Read Across America Week at Powers Ferry, March 2nd-6thMonday - We will kick off the week with a Seuss Trivia question during the a.m. announcements. The answer can be found in a book on display in the Learning Commons. Those who answer the question will have a chance to win a prize! Each classroom will have a guest reader. The lunchroom will be serving Seuss Slushies. I hear the Cat in the Hat is visiting Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms. Other guest will be appearing in grades 2-5.
Tuesday- Grades 2-5 students can pick up a book template in the media center to recommend their favorite book. I will put copies in teacher boxes for anyone who wants to get an early start. All templates that are returned by 7:45 a.m. Friday, March 6th, will be entered to win a prize. The summary template is shaped like a hot air balloon to represent all “the places you can go” by reading! More author trivia on the A.M. announcements. Wednesday- Listen out for another Author Trivia question on the morning announcements for a chance to win a prize. The answer can be found in a book on display in the Learning Commons. Thursday - All students, teachers and staff may wear a hat to school as a way of saying, “Hats off to Dr. Seuss and to reading!” Dr. Seuss loved silly hats. He believed he was more creative when he wore a silly hat. Next time you are writing and you are looking for inspiration, try wearing a silly hat. Friday - 4th and 5th will enjoy an assembly with actress/author Cathy Kaemmerlen: General George Washington and other Spies of the Revolutionary War. There will be one final author trivia question and winners will be announced on the A.M news. It should be a fun week! |
